Parties blame CM, PM for violence in state
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, July 07 2023: Amid the restive sit - uation gripping the state, 10 like-minded political parties organised a peace convention at Congress Bhawan where-in members present were unanimous that chief min-ister N Biren Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are accountable for the tension and violence.

They also demanded resignation of CM Biren on moral ground.

The convention jointly or-ganised by AAP, AIFB, AITC, CPI, CPI (M), INC, JD (U), NCP, RSP, and SS (UBT) served as a platform for various political parties and leaders to unite in their effort to restore peace and normalcy.

The convention also highlighted the need for the central government to address the on-going violence and take necessary action at the earliest.

The five MP delegation of Left parties including John Brittas and Bikashranjan Bhattacharya of CPI-M, and Binoy Vishwam, Sandosh Ku-mar and K Subba Rayan of CPI, who are in the state to take stock of the situation, also attended the convention.

Speaking at the convention, former chief minister 0 Ibobi categorically contended that the unrest situation in Mani-pur is due the hidden agen-da of the BJP to trigger clash among the people of Manipur.

As there is no law and or-der and the state machinery has totally failed, it is ob-vious that chief minister N Biren and PM Narendra Modi should take moral responsi-bility for the chaos.

While contending that ces-sation of hostility between government forces and mil-itant organisations was also enforced in the state before the Congress government, he said suspension of operation was formally signed in 2005 followed by finalisation of So0 ground rules in 2008.If at all there were loopholes in the SOO ground rules, the BJP could remedied the same, Ibobi reasoned and alleged that the BJP government intentionally brushed aside the need to rein in the So0 signatories for nine years to put the blame on the Congress as and when needed.

Stating that the peace con-vention is not to draw polit-ical mileage but to work out plan for restoration of peace, 0 Ibobi pointed out that the opposition parties went to Delhi to meet the PM and the Union Home minister as those in power ignored suffering of the people.

He also charged the PM Mo-di-led government for under-mining the need to expedite the border fencing project which the then Congress gov-ernment initiated to prevent nefarious activities along the porous Ind -Myanmar the border belt.

Speaking on the occasion, former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam, who is also the Congress Steering Committee member, observed that ev-ery time a particular political party comes to power there is always chaos and problem, which the Congress had al-ready predicted.

Until this party is rooted out there can be no peace in the state, he said confiding that as PM Modi India has not approved ap-pointment to discuss over the Manipur situation, Congress along with other opposition parties would now knock the door of UN.

Meanwhile, the conven-tion also strongly condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his stoic silence on the Manipur violence which has been raging for the past 65 days.

The participants expressed gratitude to Rahul Gandhi for his two-day visit to the state as a peace messenger and urged the five Left MPs to mount pressure on the cen-tral government to restore normalcy in Manipur.

The convention further re-solved to work for bringing peace, bridge the trust deficit, heal the wounds of the peo-ple and demand resignation of chief minister N Biren on moral ground.

A two-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives due to the crisis.

MPCC president K Meghachandra, former MP Th Meina, former ministers M Nara, Nimaichand Luwang and Kh Loken, and CPI leader L Sotinkumar were present at the convention among others.
