Many condemn killing of students, SF excesses
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, September 28 2023: Many continue to condemn the brutal killing of two students by Kuki militants and also excesses committed by the security forces during crackdown on students who are demanding justice for the duo.

In separate releases, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa MLA S Kebi, Zeliangrong United Committee Manipur Valley, All Manipur Nupi Marup, Federation of Haomee, All Manipur Democratic Women's Association, Village Volunteer Force Awang Sekmai, Jiribam units of MSF, DESAM, KSA and another student bodv denounced the murder of the two students, Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi.

Stating that the perpetrators of such horrendous crimes should be made to repent, they demanded stringent punishment to those involved in the killing of the students as per law of the land.

The civil bodies also demanded compensation of Rs 30 lakh each to the family of the slain students and prayed for the departed souls to rest in peace in the heavenly abode.

The organisations and individuals also condemned brute force used by security forces towards the unarmed student protestors who took out rally demanding justice for the two students mercilessly killed by Kuki militants.

Such atrocities of the security on the students are acts which will delight the enemies, they opined.

Meanwhile, maintaining that use of excessive force on students who were protesting against the brutal killing of two students by armed Kuki militants and demanding justice for the slain duo by using tear gas shells, smoke bombs and rubber bullets is a brutal act beyond one's imagination, United Protection Committee Nambol has condemned the crackdown in the strongest terms.

Addressing media persons at its Nambol office, Committee's Women Wing secretary L Premila Leima said that the state government is torturing us for quite long and we do not know how long we are going to remain tolerating.

Bloodshed cannot bring the desired goal or solution, she said while adding that the government should arrest the culprits at the earliest and give them befitting punishment.

The government should be held responsible for all the unwanted incidents happening, she added.

Condemning the murder of the two, New Development Organisation (NDO), Singjamei demanded that the culprits involved be arrested and given stringent punishment.

In a press meet held at NDO's office in Singjamei Oinam Thingel on Wednesday, NDO convenor Oinam Romen urged the government to update the public on the CBI's investigation into the killings and insisted that the armed Kukis involved in the murder be punished suitably so as to restore peace in the state.

Terming the chief minister's failure to restore for the past five months as testament of the incompetency of the government, he also questioned the PM's silence over brutal murder of the two students, when he was vocal about the viral video of the naked parade of two women.

Later, the members of NDO observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to departed souls of the two students.
