Chief Justice Mridul pitches for resettlement of IDPs

Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur Siddharth Mridul visited Thingkangphai community hall and Lanva TD block relief camps in Churachandpur district on Friday and interacted with the internally displaced persons (IDPs) staying there.
High Court's judge justice Golmei Gaiphulsillu, Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) member secretary Alek Muiyah and other legal officials were also among the visiting delegates who were accorded warm welcome at the district court complex before proceeding to Thingkangphai and Lanva relief camps.
During his speech, chief justice Siddarth Mridul said that his visit to Churachandpur is not at the best of time but informed that the purpose of his visit is to bring people together and to make sure that all the displaced people return to their respective homes.
He also assured the gathering that his team will do everything in their capacities to ensure that displaced people return home at the earliest and prevent further loss of lives and divisions of institutions.
According to Siddarth Mridul, the legal fraternity is with all the people including those displaced and currently sheltered in relief camps in these difficult hours and shall always be with the suffering people as an institution and conscientious citizens of the society.
At Thingkangphai relief camp, the team provided four torch-light with lamps, 36 diapers, 45 plastic mats, 45 mattresses, 15 buckets with mugs, 45 Jumbo boxes, 20 Lactogen milk powder boxes, eight bicycles, two footballs, two volleyballs, four pairs of badminton rackets, two sets of shuttle-cock and six skipping ropes.
At Lanva TD block relief camp, the team provided eight torch-light with Lamps, 35 diapers, 87, plastic mats, 87 mattresses, 25 buckets with mugs, 85 Jumbo boxes, 30 Lactogen milk powder boxes, three bicycles, two footballs, two volleyballs, four pairs of badminton rackets, two sets of shuttle-cock and six skipping ropes.
During the reception at the sessions court, DLSA, Churachandpur submitted a memorandum urging the chief justice to look into the district court building construction and ensure construction of Churachandpur jail for which fund had already been sanctioned.
The memorandum also urged the chief justice to take up steps for opening an examination centre for competitive examinations in Churachandpur so that candidates do not need to go outside or to Senapati.
During his visit to Lanva TD block relief camp, displaced medical (MBBS) students from various institutions like RIMS, JNIMS and others brought up their problems including inability to continue online classes after they were allowed to do so at Churachandpur Medical College for one month only.
Medical students also expressed their fear of losing academic career as the examination is drawing closer.
Leaders of Zomi Students' Federation also met the visiting chief justice and informed him about the problems being faced by students including deprivation of online exam centres in Churachandpur district.
