Case lodged for violating MCC

One case has been taken up for violating Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections in Inner and Outer Parliamentary seats of Manipur while a report has been sought from District Election Officer (DEO) concerned over the complaint against the gathering of a large number of womenfolk at the Chief Minister's Bungalow, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Manipur Pradeep Kumar Jha today.
Speaking to the media at his office at Lamphelpat after inaugurating a campaign on electoral participation today, PK Jha continued that MCC became effective right from the moment the election notification was issued.

Saying that the office of the CEO has received a complaint of violation of MCC from one political party over the gathering of scores of womenfolk at CM's Bungalow after the election notification was issued, the CEO, Manipur conveyed that he had asked the DEO concerned to submit a report on the matter.
The DEO hasn't submitted the report as of yet but appropriate actions will be taken up if anyone is found violating MCC, he assured and added that a case has been taken up against one candidate of the Lok Sabha election for violating election protocols while taking part in a TV discussion.
Pradeep Kumar said that he, however, hasn't received any complaint on banning flag hoisting of the political parties and candidates of the Parliamentary elections.
To a query, the CEO said that the Ukhrul police have been directed to ensure the safety of the Congress candidate in Outer Manipur Parliamentary seat Alfred K Arthur following the attack during a poll meeting recently.
Meanwhile, Pradeep Kumar appealed to all electors to participate in the election and cast their votes without any fear.
He said that different measures have been taken up to make people understand the candidates of the election better using multi-media platforms.
The CEO went to state that Election Observers appointed by ECI have landed in Manipur.
Saying that the first round of training for the polling personnel has completed, Pradeep Kumar added that 94 special polling stations have been set up for the Internally Displaced People of which 65 are in Outer Constituency and the remaining 29 are in the Inner.
ROs of these special polling stations have been appointed, he added.
13842 copies of Form 12 for differently-abled persons have been issued, Pradeep Kumar said and added that they have also identified 20,675 voters above the age of 85.The CEO stated that they have transmitted postal ballots to 9541 service voters from Inner seat and 12,215 from Outer seat.
