Imphal, April 05 2024:
The Manipur State Pharmacy Council, Drug Control Administration of the Medical Directorate has appealed to all concerned to purchase allopathy medicines only from authorised chemist shops/pharmacists and take cash memo for every purchase.
Addressing a press briefing at R&D Wing of the Medical Directorate at Lamphelpat today, Drug Inspector Y Ronald continued that they will carry out a drive to ensure there are no lapses in the supply chain of drugs in the State.
He said that they may even take up legal actions against chemist shops and pharmacists if they are found not complying with the drug laws.
It is unfortunate to see people buying life saving medicines from random chemist shops/pharmacies without verifying whether they are authorised/licensed to sell medicines or not, he said.
There are rules to be followed while selling medical devices and drugs such as maintenance of room temperature, he said and added that at least one pharmacist in a chemist shop must wear an apron and cash memo should be given for every purchase.
People should study the quality, safety, efficacy and affordability of medicines and refrain from buying life saving drugs blindly, he advised.
Saying that drug price is well regulated in some States like Punjab, Ronald added that the Drug Control Administration of Manipur is also working to control the price of drugs to some extent.
Saying that they can take actions if a person develops an adverse reaction after taking a particular drug if they have a cash memo, Ronald asked all to take a cash memo for every purchase of medicines.
He said that a drug testing laboratory will be set up at the
Medical Directorate.
