Imphal, April 05 2024:
A launching programme on awareness of safety, efficacy and quality of drugs was organised by Manipur State Pharmacy Council at the office of Drug Control Administration, Medical Directorate, R&D Wing, Lamphelpat on Friday.
Speaking in connection with the programme, Manipur State Pharmacy Council president RK Basumani noted that people seldom consider whether the medicines at the pharmacies are actually stocked in adherence with safety norms.
People are also not well aware of the reduction in the quality of the medicines if it is not properly stored and transported.
Such poorly stored or transported medicines could be hazardous to our health, he pointed out.
In his address, drug inspector Y Ronal said that during inspection visits, it came to light that many pharmacies do not have cold storage facilities which is violation of terms and conditions mandated for medicine storage.
While cautioning that legal actions can be initiated against such pharmacies, he also said that the council will be taking up measures to identify quality-compromised medicines being supplied to the state by various pharmaceutical companies.
Steps will also be taken to inspect scattering and dumping of expired medicines in rivers, lakes and fields, he maintained while reminding all concerned that selling medicines without necessary license is against the law.
