Imphal, April 05 2024:
The Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front (MNRF) has said that they will strictly monitor intimidation of voters in its 'operational areas' and ensure free and fair Lok Sabha elections.
In a statement, MNRF said that they are deeply disturbed and saddened by the situation unfolding in Manipur.
Stating that the escalating violence in the electoral landscape will undermine the prospect of a peaceful, free, fair and transparent election, the MNRF maintained that they nonetheless are committed to ensure smooth and peaceful exercise of the people's franchise 'in their area' .
The Front also appealed to all candidates, political parties, Church bodies, civil society organisations, voters and the armed groups to exercise utmost restraint and refrain from violence during critical phases of electoral campaigning.
It further appealed to Church leaders to use their platform to encourage congregations to select candidates based on righteousness, integrity and dedication.
The Front continued that they endeavour to uphold the principles of democracy and ensure the Lok Sabha election is held in a secure and transparent manner.
Appealing to all voters to not be tempted by monetary inducement but to make informed and rightful decisions that will shape the future for generations to come, the MNRF sought support from all concerned in fostering a congenial, peaceful and violence free environment where every citizen can exercise their franchise without fear.
The Front said that they will observe developments on the ground by collaborating with the local authorities and general public.
"By maintaining a vigilant presence and fostering co-operation among community members, the MNRF aims to create an environment conducive to democratic participation, free from coercion, intimidation or violence," it added.
