Imphal, April 05 2024:
With BJP eyeing a third term at the Centre, the party has intensified campaign in the state too with BJP ministers and MLAs canvassing support for the party's candidate Th Basanta Kumar.
Like in other ACs, power minister Th Biswajit kicked off the poll campaign in his constituency Thongju on March 28 by conducting campaign meetings with booth leaders, representatives of local clubs, women, PRI representatives and party workers.
Unlike past elections, where political leaders went to different localities, most of these campaign meetings this time are confined to the residence of the minister at Ningom Thongjao.
During those meetings, the minister highlighted measures taken up by the BJP government for saving the indigenous people of the state including ILP System, Indo-Myanmar border fencing, decision to scrap FMR and NRC update among others, as well as renaming of Mount Harriet of Andaman and Nicobar Islands into Mount Manipur and deployment of BSF in border areas among others.
