Imphal, April 05 2024:
Deeply distressed, disturbed and saddened by the current situation unfolding in Manipur as the country prepares for its largest democratic exercise, Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front (MNRF) has called upon all the candidates, political parties, church bodies, civil society organisations, voters and armed groups to exercise utmost restraint and refrain from violence during the critical phase of election campaigning.
With the approach of the seven-phase Lok Sabha election across India, the armed outfit informed all the responsible citizens that the escalating violence in electoral landscape will undermine the prospects of a peaceful, free, fair and transparent election process.
Accordingly, MNRF urged church leaders to use their platforms to encourage congregations to elect candidates based on righteousness, integrity and dedication.
Furthermore, the outfit cautioned against succumbing to the temptation of monetary inducements and gifts offered by candidates and political parties.
Drawing inspiration from the biblical passage, Amos 5: 24, 'let justice roll down like a gushing water and righteousness like a mighty stream,' MNRF urged voters to listen to their inner voices and make informed, truthful decisions that will shape the future for generations to come.
The pervasive fear among the electors is concerning, the outfit said and strongly called for unity in fostering a congenial, peaceful and violence-free environment where every responsible citizen can exercise their political franchise without fear or intimidation.
According to MNRF, it is committed to actively engaging and monitoring activities within its areas of influence to ensure a smooth and peaceful exercise of the people s franchise.
Accordingly, it will strictly monitor intimidation from any quarters and encourage free and fair elections among the voters in its operational areas, maintained the MNRF statement issued by its information & publicity cell.
