Imphal, January 08 2024:
Many students pursuing MBBS degree are unable to continue their studies due to the conflict which has been raging in the state since May 3 last year.
This is a huge loss to us in the long term, JNIMS director Professor Laishram Deben has stated.
He made the statement while speaking as the chief guest of the annual College Day celebration of Churachandpur Medical College held at Kyamgei Khaginganba Youth Club oh Saturday last.
Prof Deben continued that the day was observed in Kyamgei as one of the government's policies to resume classes for the students in the unused COVID hospital until the conflict is resolved.
If the locals want a medical college in the area and are willing to donate land for the same, the government will definitely consider the matter, he assured.
The director then said that the first and second batch of Churachandpur Medical College consisted of 200 students, of which only 15 present were from outside the state.
As such, there is need to resume normal offline classes in consideration of the students' future.
Teachers also need to teach the students and draw the attention of the government and authorities concerned with regard to shortage, if any, of requisite infrastructure, so as to produce excellent doctors for the future.
The function was also attended by Family Welfare Services, additional director (project manager) Dr Chambo Gonmei, Churachandpur Medical College director Prof S Iboyaima and Kyamgei Khaginganba Youth Club president S Joy as members on the dais.
