Imphal, January 08 2024:
Asserting that Meetei, as the majority community, has been donning the role of the binding force and upholding the integrity of Manipur, Meitei Leepun chief Mayengbam Pramot said that a strong Meetei community is a must for a vibrant and progressive state.
He also said that all the communities in the state will be usurped as the Kuki nomenclature if the latter were the majority.
Speaking at a public meeting jointly organised by Meitei Leepun, Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup oh the theme 'Need for removing illegal Kuki immigrants from ST list' at Lamboi Khongnangkhong Lampak, here on Sunday, Pramod informed that Meitei Leepun, founded in 2015, is not a registered body but a social organisation that works for the welfare of the society.
Without Meetei community, there will be no Manipur, as the community has been the binding force among the different communities while preserving their identities, tradition and culture.
The geographical area of Manipur was much larger than the current size and Meitei Leepun has been working towards uniting the Meetei community residing in different parts of the country as well as neighbouring countries.
It is wrong for the Kukis to think Meetei as a community trapped from all sides.
Rather, they should realise that it is the Meeteis who surround them, he added.
Uripok Apunba Lup president Soram Tikendrajit, Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup president Potsangbam Joyshree, Lamboi Khongnangkhong Meira Paibi Lup advisor Phurailatpam Radharani and other leaders of Meitei Leepun also attended the public meeting.
