Erection of chiefs monolith opposed

Imphal, January 08 2024:
Raenghzaeng (Ngarian) village 'Khunbu'/chief Pantiphun Ruangmei has declared erection of monolith in commemoration of 35th years of chiefship and ex-officio chairman of the village namely Rangjandun Kamei on January 5 at the village under Kangvai sub-division, Churachandpur district, as null and void.
In a release, Pantiphun Ruangmei alleged that the programme was conducted by few members of the Kamei clan without the unanimous decision of the village.
Since inception of the village, Ruangmei clan has been the 'Khunbu'/chief of the village which continues till date.
As Ruangmei clan is the founder and owner of the village, no other person can be the 'Khunbu'/chief of the said village except from the line' of succession of the original settler who established the village as per the traditional practice of the Kabui (Rong-mei) community, it claimed.
The release continued that after due permission from Ruangmei clan, Kamei clan came and settled at Raenghzaeng village later established and assigned as 'Khulakpa' by the Ruangmei clan to look after the well-being of the village but not as chief of the village.
Ruangmei clan further cautioned that in case of unwanted incidents arising due to erection of monolith or claim as chief of the village then the Kamei clan shall be held responsible.
