Commotion breaks out between locals and security personnel

Village Volunteer Force, Phougakchao Ikhai handed over a personnel of 16 Kumaon Regiment to Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station today after finding him inside an abandoned house at Phougakchao Ikhai Maning Leikai in a suspicious manner.
A confrontation also broke out between 16 Kumaon Regiment and Phougakchao Ikhai Meira Paibi, Village Volunteer Force and the public over the issue.
Consequently, personnel of 16 Kumaon Regiment, Phougakchao Ikhai Meira Paibi and Village Volunteer Force talked over the matter at Phougakchao Ikhai police station and the erring personnel found inside the abandoned house was suspended.
The matter was finally resolved after the locals received assurance that stringent action will be taken against the security personnel.
Speaking in this connection, Moirangthem Mani, member, Village Volunteer Force and an eye-witness, stated that yesterday around 7.05 pm, unknown miscreants dressed in army fatigues broke down the door of Ningombam Kalachand's abandoned house at Phougakchao Ikhai Maning Leikai in an alleged attempt to rob the house.
However, village volunteers fired blank rounds and chased the unknown men who somehow managed to escape.
When the village volunteers were on their way to visit the abandoned house this morning around 7 to take stock of the stolen items, they found the aforementioned security personnel dressed in army fatigues inside a different abandoned house in a suspicious manner.
A gun without a magazine was also found in his possession, said Moirangthem Mani.
The village volunteers repeatedly asked him if he belonged to 16 Kumaon Regiment, to which the man refused to answer.
Finally, after continued questioning, he disclosed that he was an Assam Rifles personnel.
Continuing with the narration, he said that a scuffle broke out as the village volunteers tried to hand over the security personnel to Phoubakchao Ikhai police station but were stopped by personnel of 16 Kumaon Regiment who asked for the man to be handed over to them.
It was reportedly at this juncture that the village volunteers were informed that the man belonged to Kumaon Regiment.
Expressing suspicion that personnel of 16 Kumaon Regiment stationed at Phougakchao Ikhai might also be responsible for last night's "break in", Moirangthem Mani called for withdrawal of Central forces.
