Consultation programme on Manipur's crisis conducted

A one-day consultation on 'Crisis in Manipur: Its challenges and protection of human rights', a follow up on Brahmaputra Declaration, was held today at BR Ambedkar hall, Silchar, Cachar in Assam.
The consultation programme was jointly organised by Manipuri Youth Front of Assam (MYFA) and North East Dialogue Forum (NEDF) .
Social activist Dr Dhanabir Laishram; U Nobokishore of NEDF; former president Karbi Students' Association, Thangsing Timung; Assam Indigenous Peoples Protect Committee president, Sahdev Rajbhangshi; member of All Tripura Manipuri Youth And Student Association, K Dhiren; social worker Tampakmayum Kamaluddin; Manipuri Kanba Lup chairman, RK Sanahal; meira paibi leader of Barak Valley Assam, Thangjam Sanathoi and social worker, Keisham Bidyapati graced as the presidium members of the programme.

Speaking at the occasion, MYFA advisor, Seram Herajit said that the consultation programme is organised with the participation of different communities residing mainly at the Northeastern States of Manipur, Tripura and Assam to deliberate on how to tackle human rights violation issue with regards to the ongoing communal conflict in Manipur which erupted on May 3, 2023 .
In connection with the above, a number of resolutions will be taken during the consultation programme and memorandums will be submitted to the United Nations and the Central Government to highlight the issue and come up with measures to prevent further violation of human rights, he said.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Dhanabir Laishram stressed on the need of promoting unity to fight against all forms of forces which may pose threat to the unity and integrity of Manipur.
Raising concern on mushrooming of organizations, he maintained that working collectively under an apex organization and striving for a common cause will prove more effective.
He also expressed belief that Manipur will emerge as a stronger and progressive State through sincere and unified efforts though it is going through a challenging period in view of the ongoing communal tensions.
