MAYOL's 'Long March' heads for Nambol

Imphal, December 22 2023: The 'Long March' of Manipur Youth League (MAYOL) reached Konthoujam village in Imphal West district on the third day Friday and headed towards Nambol in Bishnupur district in the evening.

The 'Long March' carrying the message for regeneration of Manipuri society and forging unity among the people was flagged from the sacred Kangla Utra Shanglen on December 20.On the third day, the 'Long March' was flagged off from Lamsang Praja higher secondary school and reached Konthoujam Lairembi community hall, wherein a public meeting was held in coordination with People's Protection Committee (PPC) .

Before the public meet, thousands of people of Konthoujam and neighbouring villages accorded warm welcome to volunteers of MAYOL taking part the 'Long March', which was undertaken to rejuvenate the people and protect political boundary of the erstwhile sovereign Manipur from adversary elements.

The public meet was attended by MAYOL convener Asem Prince, PPC president Manitomba, PPC general secretary P Thoiba, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam and Imphal Times editor Rinku Khumukcham as presidium members.

Asem Prince thanked the people for encouraging MAYOL volunteers by according warm welcome to the 'Long March'.

He said that the huge support extended by the people particularly women, youth and students to the 'Long March' in every locality clearly indicates that the masses have firm resolve to combat those challenging unity and integrity of Manipur.

He also expressed apprehension that the indigenous communities of Manipur will be extinct in near future if unable to have a new beginning in the society.

He also said that youth taking part the 'Long March' are fully committed to face any challenge to unity and integrity of Manipur and their strength, courage and spirit to fight challenges will never wane as long as people are solidly behind them.

In his speech, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam said people need to discuss what role they should play for the society amidst the challenges from Kuki-Chin narco-terrorists and stressed the need for having a strong administration which could face any challenges.

He also appealed to select courageous representatives who could think for the people and the community in election.

According to Joychandra, people of Manipur will never accept attempt being made by the 10 Kuki MLAs to break apart Manipur by demanding 'separate administration'.

Regrettably, the 50 remaining MLAs are still unable to take action against the 10 Kuki MLAs and it is very unfortunate that three MPs of Manipur are yet to utter a word in Parliament about the crisis in Manipur.

In view of the prevailing situation, people should elect representatives who could work for the people in the upcoming elections, he said.

After the public meet, the 'Long March' headed for Nambol in Bishnupur district passing through different localities.

The rally will cover 600km before ending on January 9, 2024, which marks the 190th death anniversary of Maharaj Gambhir Singh, the leader who drove out the Burmeses occupiers and led the erstwhile Manipur levy.

In every locality, MAYOL volunteers taking part the 'Long March' were accorded warm welcome by erecting banana plants and provided meal, vegetables and other edible items for the volunteers.
