Somorjit's last rites held with full state honours

Imphal, January 18 2024:
The last rite of rifleman Wangkhem Somorjit, who was killed in an RPG attack by Kuki militants in Moreh on Wednesday, was held at his home village Malom Tulihal on Thursday, after according full state honours at the 1st MR ground, here.
Meanwhile, the body of Havildar Takhellambam Saileshwar was deposited at RIMS mortuary on Thursday while two out of seven injured security personnel are still in hospitals.
After family members and locals of Malom Tulihal and neighbouring villages claimed the body of Somorjit from RIMS mortuary, a memorial service was held at Manipur Police Memorial at 1st MR Complex, where floral tributes and state honours were accorded to the slain martyr.
Works minister Govindas Konthoujam, social welfare minister Heikham Dingo, Moirang MLA Thongam Shanti, security advisor Kuldiep Singh, DGP Rajiv Singh, and senior officers of state and central forces attended the memorial service.
From there, the body was taken to his home at Malom Tulihal, where the funeral was conducted.
On the other hand, body of Havildar Takhellambam Saileshwar (40) of Lamsang Akham was brought to RIMS mortuary.
He was the youngest of seven siblings, and is survived by his wife, one daughter (11) one son (9).He was a sportsperson and played as goalkeeper of Manipur Police football team.
Apart from the two martyrs, seven personnel of state police including an ASI were also injured in the attack in Moreh.
Five have been discharged while two are still undergoing treatment in two different hospitals.
The seven injured personnel are 3rd 1RB riflemen Md Kamal Hassan, Songsuathui Aimol, & Md Abdul Hasim, 8th IRB (special commando) constable Ngasepam Bhim, 8th IRB (special commando) ASI Sidarth Thokchom, 1st IRB (special commando) rifleman K Premananda, and 1st MR (special commando) rifleman Wangkhem Surjit.
Songsuathui Aimol and Md Abdul Hasim sustained minor injuries and are recovering in Moreh.
Ngasepam Bhim, ASI Sidarth Thokchom, Md Kamal Hassan and Wangkhem Surjit were brought to RIMS hospital.
ASI Sidarth sustained bomb splinter injury on his face and is undergoing treatment at RIMS while the others have been discharged.
Rifleman Kumam Premananda of Moirang Kumam Leikai sustained bullet wound on his abdomen and is undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity.
