Imphal, January 18 2024:
Expressing concern over the failure to control law and order at Moreh, the Global Manipur Federation (GMF) has asked the Centre to give full authority to the State Government to perform its duty within its mandate if they are unable to tackle the terror attacks on the State security forces.
In a statement, GMF said that regular attacks by Kuki narco-terrorists such as the recent Haotak massacre highlight the urgent need for comprehensive action against narco terrorism to ensure the safety of the State forces and civilians.
Saying that any armed aggression on Indian soil, internal or external, is punishable under the Constitution of India, the Federation urged all leaders to address the escalating violence in Manipur.
Collaborative efforts are needed to stop organized armed aggression, emphasizing the federal Constitutional mandates, GMF said and demanded immediate and decisive action against the terror attack at Moreh by prioritising Manipur's safety and security.
The Federation went on to state that the safety of State forces is crucial to secure the future of Manipur while urging all leaders to recognize the gravity of the situation and take immediate measures.
"GMF stands in solidarity with affected communities, offering support and unwavering commitment to justice.
Let us unite for justice, peace, and security and overcome these challenges together," it added.
Meanwhile, the GMF extended condolences on the tragic demise of two security personnel Wangkhem Somorjit Meetei and Takhellambam Sieleshwor Singh at Moreh.
It also expressed sorrow for those six State force personnel who got injured 'during the combined attack by Kuki narco-terrorists and Myanmar militants' on State forces at Moreh.
Saying that the assault on State forces at Moreh began at 3:30 am on January 17, at the IRB post near Kondong Lairembi while security personnel were asleep, GMF continued that W Somorjit lost his life while six IRB personnel sustained injuries during the attack.
T Sieleshwor, critically injured, later succumbed to his injuries, it added.
"Social media reports indicate threats from Kuki narco-terrorists and Myanmar militants against Central security forces who refrained from retaliation.
Kuki women are reported to block roads to Tengnoupal district to impede reinforcements from Imphal reaching Moreh," GMF claimed.
Condemning the ongoing "terror attack" on State forces by Kuki narco-terrorists and Myanmar militants at Moreh, GMF maintained that the lack of assistance to the State forces who face regular assaults raises serious concerns about those in authority.
GMF also questioned the commitment of Central security forces during the crisis and demanded clarification from them (Central forces) on their inaction against threats.
