Four killed, three hurt in attacks by Kuki militants

Imphal, January 18 2024:
A multi-front coordinated attacks launched by Kuki militants with use of bombs and sophisticated firearms in different parts of the state left at least four dead and three injured in the last 24 hours.
The attacks were carried out at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, Kadangband Part 1, Kadangband Part 2, Kangchup, Koutruk, Maphou Dam and Sinam villages among others.
As per reports received by the press, large number of Kuki militants rained bombs and bullets on Kadangband Part 1 and 2, Kangchup and Koutruk villages from around 11 pm on Wednesday.
Village volunteers and security forces deployed in the areas retaliated resulting in gunfights till 2.30 am in Koutruk, and till 3 am in Kadangband Part 1, 2 and Kangchup.
There were no casualties in Koutruk, and Kadangband villages.
The Kuki militants forayed up to Kangchup Lamdaibung and carried out the attack, in which one village volunteer was killed and one injured.
The slain volunteer has been identified as Takhellambam Manoranjan of Thiyam Konjin.
State forces retrieved his body around 8 am and deposited the same at RIMS mortuary.
In Imphal East district, Kuki militants launched another round of attack in Sinam village on Thursday around 5.30 pm.
The attack followed an earlier assault on Wednesday night.
One village volunteer suffered bullet wound in the resulting gunfight, which continued till 6 am.
Another village volunteer went missing in the gunfight, and was rescued at around 3.30 pm after a search and rescue operation carried out by the village volunteers.
Meanwhile, a local of Tumukhong suffered splinter injuries while herding his cattle back from a field near Maphou Dam after Kuki militants launched an attack using bombs and high calibre firearms on Thursday around 1.30 pm.
Consequently, village volunteers retaliated and rescued the injured person.
On the other hand, three civilians, including a father-son duo were killed by Kuki militants in Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Maning area near the local water supply scheme on Thursday around 3 pm.
The victims have been identified as Oinam Bamoljao (60), son of late Nokul, his son O Manitoba (32), and Thiyam Somen (50) son of late Manibabu, all residents of Ningthoukhong Ward No 4 .
Local sources said that Bamoljao and his son operated a private water treatment plant near the water supply schefne, located around 300 metres from the foothill and sold drinking water to private tankers.
They also have a farmhouse at the same location.
Somen owned a vegetable farm nearby and all of them were in their farm when they were assaulted by the Kuki militants, who reportedly sneaked into the area from along the banks of Khujairok River after crossing Laimanai Kabui village.
Police and local volunteers retrieved their bodies and brought to Bishnupur district hospital.
Later, they were deposited at RIMS mortuary.
A case has been registered at Bishnupur police station in connection with the incident.
Body of another person killed by Kuki militants was found around 7 pm in the nearby area.
The victim has been identified as Ningthoujam Nabadwip (37) son of late Shyam of the same locality.
Locals of Ningthoukhong Kha Ward No 4 took out a procession taking his body in an ambulance up to Bishnupur district hospital, from where the body was taken to RIMS mortuary.
