Assam Rifles pays tribute to brave-hearts, distributes items

Assam Rifles of IGAR (S) organised a wreath-laying ceremony to honour the supreme sacrifice made by riflemen Umesh Chandra of 37 Assam Rifles and Y Raju of 33 Assam Rifles in the service of the nation.
According to the PRO IGAR (S), Umesh Chandra succumbed to injuries suffered in a face off with insurgents near Moreh town, Manipur on January 16, 2004.Similarly, Y Raju sacrificed his life in an exchange of fire with UG cadres during a search operation near Bishnupur, on January 16, 2010.During the ceremony, Assam Rifles paid heartfelt homage to these brave-hearts at the War Memorial, recognising their supreme sacrifice for the cause of the nation, disregarding personal safety, the PRO added.
On the other hand, during a search operation jointly conducted by Assam Rifles and Manipur police in general area of Likhai village in Churachandpur district, one AK 47 rifle was recovered and handed to police for further actions, the PRO added.
Meanwhile, as part of its civic action programme, Assam Rifles organised sports tournaments and distributed sports equipment at Chandel, Larong and Moltuk villages of Chandel district as well as at Machi in Tengnoupal district.
Similarly, water storage tanks were distributed to Henjol vil lage in Churachandpur district.
A total of 40 storage tanks at Henjol village, 35 water storage tanks at Hiangtam Lamka and 35 water storage tanks at Veng were distributed to aid the local populace during the time of crisis, the PRO added.
