Imphal, January 18 2024:
Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameshwar said that it is not the time for 'Ji' and keep relying on outsiders when the state is burning while asserting that having started working as a volunteer he will visit the frontlines to help the village volunteers.
Attending a public meeting at Thiyam Konjil Solo Club over the death of village volunteer Takhellambam Manorajan of Thiyam Konjil Samanjing Leikai on Thursday, the MLA said that people are targeting security advisor Kuldiep Singh but the 40 Meetei MLAs are the ones who need to come out and stand united.
Whenever there is an important issue, only five to 10 MLAs attend a meeting, which is a major drawback for the state and this needs to change, he said.
As the government could have controlled the violence when the mob started burning houses in Churachandpur, the government should be held accountable for the current crisis for failing to discharge its duty, he said.
The MLA also urged the public to no longer get persuaded by the assurance by the ministers from the comfort of their quarters.
Kukis are demanding to carve out a major chunk of the state to create their own nation but the government is doing nothing, he rued.
Describing as very emotional when a police officer shared an audio over the situation in Moreh but the same officer claimed of central forces lending support in a latter audio, which is rather surprising as he heard that Assam Rifles only fired three shells, Rameshwar stressed that it is not the time for politics and all indigenous communities who love the state should not remain silent.
He also urged the JAC formed against the death of the village volunteer to pursue their demands for appropriate action against the Kuki militants but not to exchange their demands with a government job or some ex-gratia.
Meanwhile, a JAC was formed at the public meeting and adopted several resolutions for raising demands to the government, which include reinstatement of CM as chairman of Unified Command, withdrawal of SoO agreement with Kuki militants, withdraw ineffective central forces, and give additional power to state forces.
The meeting also asked the Central government to stop its divide and rule policy.
