Governor discusses state issues with CM, CS

Imphal, December 22 2023: Governor Anusuiya Uikey met with chief minister N Biren and chief secretary Dr Vineet Joshi at Raj Bhavan here on Froday and held discussion on a wide range of issues related to restoring peace and normalcy, resettling displaced individuals, distributing compensation to families who have lost their homes and properties, and other issues of importance.

The Governor inquired about the progress of the final assessment of damages due to violence conducted by the government, aiming to facilitate immediate distribution of interim relief funds.

They addressed requests from the Committee on Protection of Meitei Victim Moreh, urging immediate relief for those who suffered losses in terms of houses, shops, and properties.

The Governor also encouraged the CM to take steps toward extending relief to these affected individuals.

The meeting further covered various demands put forth by Manipur's political parties, including a request to meet the Prime Minister to address the state's issues.

Additionally, discussions involved JD-U's plea for immediate relief for the artiste community and labourers, as well as subsidised airfare for Manipur residents.

Other topics included the Forum for Restoration of Peace's appeal to halt extortion by armed groups from vehicles, goods, and shops.

The agenda encompassed the recovery of weapons, sealing of the Indo-Myanmar border, initiating dialogue processes, and ensuring free movement on national highways.

The discussions also extended to matters raised by the Joint Administrative Council of state government employees' associations, emphasising timely salary and pension disbursements.

They also touched upon the appointment of a director and filling vacant positions at the Rajya Sainik Board, Manipur.

The proposal by Meckle Tea India Private Limited for large-scale tea plantation as an alternative to poppy cultivation in the state was part of the discussion as well.

Other significant points included the proposal from Director General of Assam Rifles' Lt General PC Nair, to name the Singhat-Behiang Road after (Late) Col Viplav Tripathy, who fell in an ambush by militants in 2021.Also, the exemption of income tax for donations to the Governor's Relief Fund, recognition for security personnel contributing distinguished service in the War on Drugs, issues concerning Autonomous District Councils, and requests made by the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) were deliberated.

The CM assured the Governor of the government's commitment to addressing the points discussed, and advised the chief secretary to take all necessary steps to implement the pro posals raised during the meeting.

He praised the Governor for her efforts and expressed the government's willingness to consider Meckle.
