48 hrs bandh cripples normal lives

Imphal, January 20 2024: The normal lives of the people have been crippled by the 48-hour bandh called by JAC against the brutal killing of Takhellambam Manoranjan on Saturday.

On the first day of the bandh, Khwairamband Keithel, Paona Keithel and Thangal Keithel in Imphal city wore a deserted look.

Schools, offices and commercial establishments were all shut, passenger services stopped and vehicles plying on the road were reduced by a large number.

However, essential services, health and religious matters were exempted from the purview of the bandh.

People came out in the streets and protested by blocking roads in different areas of the valley.

However, there is no report of any untoward incident during the bandh.

Meanwhile, Meira Paibi burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, chief minister N Biren and security advisor Kuldiep Singh at Langdum Lamkhai in Imphal East.

A large number of Meira Paibis also protested at Keirao, Langdum, Khanarok, Chanam Sandrok and Thiyam Konjin.

Meanwhile, the 48-hour bandh called against the killing of Manoranjan affected normal life in the district.

All major markets in the district namely, Nambol, Bishnupur, Ningthoukhong, Moirang and Kumbi remained closed with few people commuting and motor vehicles staying away from roads.

The 48-hour bandh called by the JAC formed in connection with the killing of Takhellambam Manoranjan affected normal life in Kakching and Thoubal districts on Saturday.

On the first day of the bandh, Kakching Keithel, other markets and shops in different parts of Kakching district like Hiyanglam, Wabagai Lamkhai, Sugnu, Kakching Khunou and Pallel remained closed with minimum traffic on roads.

Similarly, Yairipok Keithel, Wangjing Keithel, Thoubal Keithel and Babu Bazar in Thoubal district remained shut and passenger service vehicles stayed off the road.

Many bandh supporters blocked the roads at Khangabok, Thoubal Mela ground, Haokha, Babu Bazar, Waithou, etc.

There were no reports of any unwanted incident.

JNV entrance test scheduled on Saturday was also conducted without any problem in all exam centres of the district.
