Imphal, January 20 2024:
Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) has cautioned that the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) should be held responsible if any attempt is made to cover up the corrupt activities of the account staff of ZEO-1, in relation to previous request for action to be taken up against the same.
In a press release issued by its president S Yaima Meitei, SSUM mentioned the unsuccessful attempt by the staff of account section of ZEO-1 to gag medi? from exposing the corrupt activities being carried out in the section.
As such, SSUM wrote to the Education minister and director to take strict action in the same.
However, the lack of action shows that the authorities are in full support of corruption.
It continued that it is the duty of the government to ensure and maintain a corruption-free society.
When the Union investigated the matter, it was found that the ZEO-1 had submitted a report on the matter to the authority concerned.
However, if the report is meant to cover up or protect the person(s) involved, ZEO-1 will be held responsible for any resulting consequences.
It is extremely unfortunate to witness such corrupt activities amid the prevailing situation in the state, the Union said, while contending that it will always stand against corruption.
SSUM then urged the people not to hurl verbal abuse on Manipur Police who are risking their lives t,o protect the integrity and unity of the state.
The Union is respectful of the role played by police personnel in Moreh.
However, those personnel who joined the forces through corruption will never be able to live up to this responsibility, it stated, while stressing the need for a corruption-free government.
