Massacre of 4 farmers by Kuki terrorists : JAC demands abrogation of SoO

The bodies of four farmers killed by Kuki militants in Ning-thoukhong Kha-Khunou on January 18 will not be claimed if its demands are not met within 48 hours, said a Joint Action Committee in a memorandum it submitted to the Chief Minister today.
The memorandum submitted by the Joint Action Committee against the brutal killing of the four inno- cent farmers urged the Government to abrogate Suspen- sion of Operation (SoO) agreement with Kuki terrorists.
It urged the Government to remove Central armed forces from areas within Ningthoukhong Ward No 2 Santipur to Thinungei within 48 hours and replace them with State security forces by installing permanent posts.
It said the case regarding the killing of the four farmers should be given to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or the National Investigation Agency (NIA) .
The memorandum stated that the Government of India must withdraw the Suspension of Operation Agreement, signed with Kuki militant groups.
The Meitei/Meetei community must be recognised as a Scheduled Tribe and the Kuki-Zo community must be removed from the list of the Scheduled Tribes.
Further, the National Register of Citizens (NRC) must be implemented in Manipur, said the JAC.
The JAC also urged the Chief Minister to visit the families of the four persons in person and provide Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of the four as ex-gratia.
The four persons include a father and son duo, Oinam Bamonjao Meitei (67) and his son Oinam Manitomba Meitei (32) of Ningthou-khong Kha-Khunou.
The other two farmers have been identified as Thiyam Somendro Singh (57) son of Late Thiyam Manibabu Singh and Ningthoujam Nabadeep Meitei (40) son of Late Ningthoujam Shyam Meitei.
The four were killed when they were tending to their farm.
The memorandum also urged the Government to provide regular jobs to the kin of the deceased farmers and give official job offer letters within 48 hours.
If the demands are not met within 48 hours, the JAC along with civil society organisations and the people, without warning, will launch intense agitations, it said.
