Several arms, explosives recovered, CoTU allegation dismissed

In an effort to enhance security and curb the crisis, security forces recently conducted search operations and area domination in fringe and vulnerable areas of both hill and valley districts and recovered several arms, ammunition and explosives.
A press statement issued by Manipur Police control room informed that the operations led to the destruction of two bunkers in Leimakhong and Kangpokpi area.
Notably, significant recoveries were made, including two Pompi guns, two 9 mm country made pistols, one country made pistol, one revolver (Made in Japan), 10 ammunition of 7.62 mm LMG, eight ammunition of 7.62 mm AK, three No 36 Hand Grenades, two No 36 Hand Grenade detonators, three UBGL GTG-40 mm HE MG-3, one 51 mm illuminating mortar shell (Lot no 76 K), one Pompi round, one IED (Weight- 2.5 Kgs), and one country-made pistol magazine from K Songlung and K Ponlen areas of Kangpokpi district.
Responding to allegations made by the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU), Kuki Inpi Manipur, through their press releases dated January 17, on social media, the police have categorically denied any collaboration with any insurgent groups, or presence of Meetei militants disguised as security forces in Moreh.
The forces deem these allegations baseless and misleading, the statement said.
To ensure the smooth movement of essential goods, 177 and 168 vehicles have been facilitated along NH-37 and NH-2, respectively.
Strict security measures are in place in all vulnerable locations, with security convoys provided in sensitive stretches to ensure the free and safe movement of vehicles, the statement added.
In a bid to maintain law and order, 142 checkpoints were installed in different districts, both in the hill and the valley.
The police have detained 161 individuals in connection with violations in various districts of the state.
The public are urged not to believe in rumours and false videos, and any circulation of unfounded content should be verified through the rumour-free number -9233522822 of the Central Control Room, the statement said.
Additionally, the statement made an appeal to the public to promptly return any looted arms, ammunition, and explosives to the police or the nearest security forces.
