MPYCC members remanded

Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today further remanded six members of Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) in police custody for three more days till October 18 on the alleged charges for putting someone's life in danger, voluntarily causing injury to public servants and attempting to snatch service gun from police personnel in the name of rally on October 13 .
The MPYCC members identified as Md Rafi (25) s/o Ibomcha of Sangaiyumpham Ningthou Mamang Leikai, Chongtham Rajesh (25) s/o (L) Leibakmacha of Patsoi Part II, Yengkhom Amitkumar (26) s/o Ishingchaoba of Kakching Mayai Leikai, Sachin Takhellambam (22) s/o (L) Tomchou of Ngaikhong Khullen Mayai Leikai, Ningthoujam Mahanta (22) s/o Gobindro of Leimaram Mayai Leikai and Md Arif (19) s/o Wahid Khan of Lilong Atoukhong were arrested by police from different locations yesterday.
They were remanded in police custody till today by a Duty Magistrate yesterday.
They were before produced the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today by a team of City police station along with a prayer for police custody remand of three more days.
The IO, citing statements of the arrested persons, submitted that they were directly or indirectly involved in the case and the youths/rioters led by Achoibam Deben and Ninthoujam Popilal brutally assaulted a police officer of City police station and made an attempt on his life in broad daylight who was in his full uniform in order to snatch his service gun.
It was further alleged that the youths/rioters even snatched the Sub Inspector's wireless handset as he tried to disperse an unlawful rally organised by 10 Opposition parties.
Later police manage to recover the wireless handset.
Investigation so far revealed that the youths led by Achoibam Deben and Ninthoujam Popilal, in the name of the rally, tried to create unrest and riotous situation to disturb public order and the act of assaulting the police officer on duty in broad daylight is a serious offence which can disturb the public order if no lawful actions are taken against the miscreants, the IO submitted.
The Court, on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of APP of the State, the IO and the defence counsels in length, remanded the six MPYCC members in police custody till October 18 .
