Joy questions ruling MLAs

Imphal, September 28 2023: Veteran politician and former Law Minister Okram Joy has questioned the silence and inaction of the ruling MLAs against the 10 Kuki colleagues who are openly demanding disintegration of Manipur.

Speaking to media persons at the Kwakeithel Akham Leikai residence of former MLA RK Anand today, O Joy asked if the ruling MLAs are serving any purpose when they could not even propose a special sitting of the State Assembly to protect the integrity of Manipur and the sanctity of its territorial boundary.

It is the duty of the ruling MLAs to see that befitting action is initiated against the 10 Kuki MLAs, he asserted.

He said that the cold blooded murder of Linthoingambi and Hemanjit by Kuki narco-terrorists have deeply hurt all the people.

He said that the Government must do everything to trace the bodies of the two young students.

"We visited the bereaved families yesterday and it was learnt that they reported the disappearance of the boy and the girl to the State authority in time, indicating the direction in which they were heading", Joy said.

But the police could not search the students at the suspected areas in time, he lamented.

No Meitei police officer can go to Churachandpur.

The Government of Manipur cannot enforce its writs in Kuki dominated areas, Joy said.

He noted that the pictures of the cold blooded murder of the two students surfaced on social media on the day Chief Minister N Biren went to Khoupum.

He also condemned the brutal crackdown and use of live bullets by security forces upon students who were protesting against the brutal murder of Linthoingambi and Hemanjit.

He said that all those rogue police personnel should be booked.

The State Government cannot say anything to the Centre on bringing an end to the Manipur crisis.

The State Government's capability is limited to imposition of curfew, shutting down of internet, assaulting women and students and registration of FIRs, Joy said.

On the other hand, Chief Minister N Biren who is always guarded by an army of security guards in his every movement is now unable to visit Churachandpur or Kangpokpi.

RK Anand maintained that Manipur can be saved only when the N Biren Government is dissolved.

Former Minister L Jayantakumar said that he had already tendered his resignation from the post of NPP Manipur working president to the party's National president Conrad Sangma.

"I'm now related with no party", he said.

Former MLA said that the bodies of the two students can be traced by questioning the village chairman and some villagers of the area where they (the two students) were murdered.
