CM resignation first step towards solution: Brinda Karat

Imphal, August 11 2023: Stressing the need for a political solution to the present crisis in the state, Ex-MP and former president of All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) Brinda Karat has maintained that the first step towards bringing a political solution to the crisis is the removal of CM Biren Singh who is responsible for the present turmoil in the state.

On a three-day visit, a team of AIDWA is in the state to show solidarity to those affected by the ethnic violence which is going on in the state since May 3 last and hundreds of people have lost their lives and thousands rendered homeless so far.

Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Friday after their meeting with victims of communal violence, Brinda Karat said that Manipur which is a land of diversity is now being tied up and ruled by politics of human destruction.

Despite the presence of a government of the same party both in the state and at the centre, it is very unfortunate that the violence in the state still continues even after 100 days.

Stating that the association takes serious note of the atrocities being committed to the women and children of the state, Brinda Karat said that it is very disheartening to observe that women have been used in the divisive and toxic politics prevailing in the state at present.

The government is solely responsible for the entire crisis.

However, the state and the central governments seem to remain careless over the crisis and taking up no measures to bring an end to it.

She also questioned the rationale behind Union Home minister Amit Shah's statement in the Parliament where he said that there is no question of removing the CM N Biren as he is fully cooperating with the central government.

Maintaining that the brave Manipuri women have been now divided by certain forces and none will be winners under such a situation, Brinda Karat stated the women of the country stand for the women of Manipur, the association stands against all kinds of atrocities being meted out to women and children.
