MMAB sheds light on employment scam, urges all to be vigilant & cautious

Shedding light on potential exploitation of youths, luring unsuspecting individuals with the promise of lucrative job opportunities, the Manipuri Meitei Association, Bangalore (MMAB) has informed the public about a recent incident involving a young Meitei girl from Manipur who needed assistance in Bengaluru.
In a release, MMAB shared that a young Meitei girl (20), was approached with a promise of employment in Kerala.
"She was meant to travel with two others to work in a hotel and mall.
Thankfully, she grew suspicious and contacted her sister, who then sought MMAB's help", it added.
Upon investigation, MMAB discovered that 27 more young girls, aged 18 to 21 years, along with three boys, had traveled from Imphal to Kerala via Hyderabad recently for employment in the hospitality industry.
They travelled on August 29 by Indigo Flight 6E187 Imphal to Hyderabad, this was confirmed by one MMAB member who was travelling in the same flight till Guwahati.
MMAB also informed that they have reached out to various training institutes to confirm the details of such travel for job employment in the Hospitality industry but none could establish the details.
"MMAB have assisted the girl in providing safe shelter in Bengaluru and assisting in her safe return to Manipur.
We do not have any whereabouts, details of the 30 people who travelled to Kerala", it added.
MMAB appealed to all the community members, especially young girls, to stay vigilant & cautious.
MMAB also urged all the community members to consider some points such as- Verify Employment Offers: Always thoroughly research and verify any job offers.
Check the credibility of the employer and gather information about the job details, accommodation, and working conditions.
Avoid Non-Verified Agents: Say no to offers made by non-verified agents or intermediaries.
Deal directly with reputable employment agencies or employers.
Parental Involvement: If considering employment opportunities elsewhere, involve your parents or guardians in the decision-making process.
Their guidance is crucial.
Report Suspicious Activity: If you encounter any suspicious activity, report it immediately to local authorities.
