PM failed to suggest soln, state MPs silent Cong

Imphal, August 11 2023: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president MLA Keisham Meghachandra has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not speaking on any solution to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the state and trying to divert the issue by politicising it and blaming the opposition for the situation.

He also slammed the MPs from the state and questioned their intention of remaining silent during the discussion on Manipur issue in the Parliament even though the house of union minister of state for external affairs RK Ranjan was torched by protestors during the crisis.

Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan here on Friday, Meghachandra said that the short mention of Manipur issue by the Prime Minister in his long speech was about his government's assurance to restore peace but he failed to mention anything about the measures and policies that would resolve the crisis or stop the violence.

He neither said anything about the causes behind the crisis, which has been going on for over three months nor gave the reason for his absence from Manipur during this volatile situation.

Even though everything points to collapse of administration, union home minister Amit Shah said that the CM of Manipur is cooperating.

Based on his remark, it would not be wrong to say that both the PM and the HM do not take the Manipur crisis seriously.

He further said that PM Modi might not have said a single word on Manipur crisis in the Parliament if Congress leaders like Malikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Gaurav Gogoi and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury did not move the no-confidence motion against the Modi government.

Even if he spoke, he did not speak much.

Thankfully to the no-confidence motion, it has become clear that the violence in the state had an ulterior motive of elections and business.

Instead of speaking on solutions to the present crisis, the PM kept on blaming Congress for past incidents like ISKCON bomb blast and INA bomb blast, which are not related with the current crisis, he pointed out.

He also strongly decried the silence of the MPs from the state including union MoS RK Ranjan, whose house was burned by protestors.

He alleged the two Lok Sabha MPs from the state of having no interest in the current crisis.

INC Steering Committee member and former deputy CM Gaikhangam called the statement of PM Modi in the parliament as dismal and unbecoming of a leader of a nation.

Opposition tried to discuss the issue and find out a solution but the PM diverted the discussion into a blame game.

There is no hope for development, unity and integrity under such leaders, he said.

Gaikhangam also slammed the Central government of leaving many ambiguous things like the invocation of Article 365 while tackling the situation.

Despite the tens of thousands of central security forces deployed in the state, there is no improvement in the law and order situation, which only heightens the insecure and doubtful feelings of the people.

Considering their lackadaisical interest in the crisis, there is nothing left to hope from the Central government but to wait for a divine intervention, he added.
