Meeteis' Chamber of Commerce Assam and All Assam Meeteis' Women Protection Committee have appealed to the Governments of Assam and Manipur to take immediate steps to ban the book "Manipur Files" for allegedly spreading misinformation, projecting Meetei community in poor light and inciting hatred among the communities.
It may be mentioned that the book titled "Manipur Files" by Pranabananda Das, journalist and executive secretary of the Bengali daily 'Bartalipi', was launched in Silchar on October 1, 2023 .

Addressing a press conference today at Meeteis' Chamber of Commerce Assam office in Silchar, general secretary of the chamber Okram Lakhi Kanta Singha cautioned that if the Governments of Manipur and Assam doesn't take necessary steps to ban the misleading book at the earliest, the chamber will be compelled to launch democratic form of agitation or legal actions against the author.
Lakhi Kanta alleged that it is rather unfortunate that a veteran journalist like Pranabananda Das would release his book based on stories from only one side without doing proper investigation or knowing the ground reality.
He continued that the release of the book was ill timed and is akin to adding oil to the fire which has been burning in the state of Manipur for more than five months.
Seeking clarification from the author of Manipur Files, the All Assam Meeteis' Women Protection Committee president Jagarata Singha alleged the book of insulting the whole Meetei community and terming an organisation as extremist without any proof or evidence.
LEECHING Jiribam Manipur secretary L Ranjan Meetei alleged the book of being factually incorrect, filled with misinformation and inciting hatred among the communities with baseless claims & concocted stories.
He asserted that instead of sitting comfortably at his home and concocting stories, the author should verify his sources and see the ground realities before writing anything which has the potential of creating more chaos & violence.
Meanwhile, Khundrakpam Kendra Youths Organisation (KHUKYO) has urged the Government of Manipur to take immediate action to ban the book "Manipur Files" for allegedly spreading misinformation and portraying the whole Meetei community in bad light.
In a release, KHUKYO also accused the author of deliberately ignoring the atrocities committed by Chin Kuki Narco Terrorists against innocent people belonging to the Meetei community and writing his book with unverified information/ baseless stories from just one side.
KHUKYO further appealed to all the people of Manipur to stand together to protect the motherland from the aggression of Chin Kuki Narco Terrorists.
