Nursing profession much challenging than others: Dr Ranjan

The state cabinet's decision to set up a directorate for medical education in the state will be of great help, said Health & IPR Minister Dr S Ranjan Singh.
Speaking as chief guest of the 12th Foundation Day Celebration cum Oath taking ceremony of the First Semester BSc Nursing Students (2023-24) Batch of College of Nursing, Lamphelpat, held at the multipurpose hall of the college on Saturday, the minister maintained that the profession of nursing is a noble profession which may also be considered as the heart of the healthcare service.
Nursing care is important right from the first breath till the final moments.
Nurses are the ones who give comfort to the patients and they should be self-motivated and determined in their profession, he asserted, adding that the profession of nursing is much challenging compared to other professions.
Mentioning about the demand for Manipuri nurses all over the country and abroad, Dr Ranjan informed that there have been requests from other countries for Manipuri nurses to work in their respective countries, in recognition of the talents and resilience of the nurses of Manipur, while informing that the matter is being discussed at the Ministry level.
He continued that as nurses are the heart of the healthcare system they need to focus and be professional in their fields, while expelling the idea of transitioning to another profession.
Expertise of their knowledge and experiences also need to be exhibited, he stated.
The minister then assured that the grievances of the College of Nursing will be addressed according to its priority, for which the health officials concerned have already been instructed.
There will be review discussions with the officials whenever necessary in order to address the shortcomings of the institute.
He also expressed his concern over the increasing bad habit of using tobacco in the state, while informing that the health authorities concerned have been advised to take up necessary steps in this regard.
Health Services director Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang and College of Nursing, Lamphelpat principal Dr N Surbala Devi attended the event as president and chief host respectively, along with officials and staff of the college, students, guardians and others.
