37th National Games: Manipur add three medals to stay fifth

Manipur added two silver and one bronze medals to their tally on Day 11 of the 37th National Games 2023 to stay fifth in the medal table.
It was a heartbreak for the state women's football team as they lost out in the final to Odisha to settle for silver medal in a keenly contested gold-medal match played at Tilak Maidam Football Ground, Vasco, Goa on Sunday.
The game went into spot kicks after the two sides remained deadlocked at 1-1 at the end of regulation.
After fruitless exchanges in the first half, Odisha stole a march on the state team after Pyari Xaxa made her strike count in the 51st minute, only to be cancelled out Nongmeikapam Sibani Devi's equaliser in the 79th minute for Manipur.
In the penalty shootout, Odisha delivered on all of their four attempts to seal a 4-2 win against Manipur.
Pyari Xaxa, Grace Lalrampari Hauhnar, Bannya Kabiraj and S Lynda Kom were the scorers for Odisha in the shootout, while Manipur converted their shots through Wangkhem Linthoingambi Devi and Phanjoubam Nirmala Devi.
The day's cycling event also saw Manipur collect a silver courtesy of Y Rojit Singh.
Rohit bagged his silver medal in the men's keirin race in track cycling.
Manipur two other medals came via triathlon as Thoudam Sorojini and Khundrakpam Nganba Meitei secured bronze medals.
Sorojini finished third in the women's triathlon to take the bronze medal.
She clocked 1:18:33 for her medal.
Maharashtra's Mansi Mohite claimed the gold with a time of 1:14:06 while Sanjana Joshi (1:17:50), also from Maharashtra, bagged the silver.
Earlier on Saturday (Nov 14), Khundrakpam Nganba won a bronze medal in triathlon for Manipur after completing the top three on the podium in the men's event.
Meanwhile, Jackson assured Manipur of at least a bronze medal in boxing after he advanced to the semifinals in the 51kg category on Sunday.
The state pugilist out punched Ankit Chouhan of Uttar Pradesh hy a 5-0 verdict.
Manipur now have won 25 gold, 19 silver and 22 bronze medals.
