YAS Minister kicks off Bishnupur District Relief Camp Sports Programme

With the goal of uplifting the spirits of conflict survivors, Govindas Konthoujam, YAS & Works Minister kicked launched the first-of-its kind Bishnupur District Relief Camp Sports Programme at Mangolnganbi College Relief Camp, Ningthoukhong today.
Organised by the District Administration Bishnupur, the ceremony was also accompanied by distribution of football kits to relief camp residents of Bishnupur district.
Aside from the YAS Minister, the ceremony was graced by Th Shanti Singh, MLA Moirang Assembly Constituency and Lourembam Bikram, Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur as the presidium members.

Under the programme, 22 sports disciplines are identified with 1166 youth enrolling from various relief camps opened in the district.
Out of the 1166, around 307 are enrolled in football.
The 22 sports disciplines are boxing, badminton, athletics, judo, cycling, equestrian, polo, kick-boxing, rowing, canoe & kayaking, football, weight lifting, basketball, shooting, handball, yoga, taekwondo, wushu, wrestling, gymnastic, hockey and Thang-Ta.
The initiative was undertaken by District Administration Bishnupur in association with numerous sports clubs in Bishnupur when children from the fifty relief camps scattered across the district express their desire to play some sports.
As part of the launching ceremony, the presidium members handed over 150 markers, 150 cones, 307 shin guards, 100 footballs, 307 football jerseys and shorts, 100 bibs, 307 boots and socks to six sports association academy who will provide coaching to 307 children from relief camps interested in football.
In addition, simple gifts and an honorarium of Rs 5000 were given to 10 coaches.
Notably, Oinam Arjun who was part of the Indian team that won the SAFF Under 19 Championship recently was also felicitated at today's event with a simple gift and a memento. Speaking as the chief guest at the launching of the programme, Minister Govindas Konthoujam said that the programme will provide an opportunity to the young children and youths who are interested in sports.
He added that this programme will help in identifying talented youths who could further train and avail the facilities at the National Sports Academy or SAI in the State to achieve higher goals, he added.
Deputy Commissioner, Lourembam Bikram said that the visit of the committee set up by the Supreme Court had advised young children and youths to engage in sports activities to help them cope with the stress.
Thus, a meeting was convened with all the stakeholders in order to ensure that the programme could be started at the earliest, he said.
He added that the training will be carried out on a regular basis.
ADC, Bishnupur District Hanjabam Bobby Sharma, officials of the District Administration and coaches among others attended the launching programme.
