Imphal, November 05 2023:
Expressing concern over the plight of pig farmers in the aftermath of outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the twin districts, Tamenglong and Noney Village Chiefs' Association has urged the state government to consider granting of soft loan or any other subsidy-based grant to ameliorate the problem of the affected pig farmers.
A release issued by the Association informed that the death toll of pigs in Tamenglong and Haochong sub-division is around 850, while it is around 1,200 in Taosem and Tamei sub-division, around 560 in Noney area and around 1300 in Khoupum-Nungba sub-division.
The outbreak of swine fever has taken a heavy toll on the livelihood of small and medium pig farm owners, it said, while adding that the pig farmers will not be able to recoup the loss if the state does not grant any soft loan or subsidy.
