Imphal, November 05 2023:
The total number of Dengue positive cases in the state has reached 2020 with Imphal West district registering maximum cases at 1318 though there is no official Dengue death record till date.
According to a report from the Malaria Department, a total of 2020 dengue positive cases have been detected in the state as of November 3 with Imphal West district recording the highest cases at 1318 cases followed by Imphal East at 403 cases.
Thoubal district recorded 117 cases and Bishnupur district recorded 60 cases followed by Senapati with 39 cases, Kakching (24), Tengnoupal (18), Chan del (10), Kangpokpi (9), Noney (8), Churachandpur (6), Ukhrul (3), Kamjong (3) and Tamenglong (2) .
However, there has been no dengue case in Jirbam and Pherzawl districts till date.
Meanwhile, state malaria officer Dr S Priyokumar told The People's Chronicle that there has been no official record of death due to Dengue in the state but unofficial reports said that six patients have succumbed to the disease as of now.
He said that Dengue test reports from JNIMS and RIMS are regarded as officially confirmed cases.
Regarding activities carried out by the government as part of the preventive measures, Dr S Priyokumar said that total containment of the disease is yet to be achieved despite taking up precautionary steps.
He said that total containment of the disease will be hard to achieve despite conducting awareness and fogging as long as breeding ground for mosquito persists in localities.
Even if fogging kills Dengue carrying adult mosquitos, eggs hatched by them will still carry Dengue virus and spread the disease when mosquitos developed from such eggs are fully grown and bite humans.
Accordingly, each and every individual must be aware of this and find out mosquito breeding ground in the surrounding of their houses or else containment of the disease will be impossible, he said.
According to Dr S Priyokumar, cooperation from family level is required for complete containment of Dengue and the medical department alone cannot contain the disease by visiting every house to identify breeding grounds.
He said that Dengue is vulnerable to infants, elderly people, BP and diabetes patients and women in their period.
