Imphal, July 03, 2010:
In order to take stock of the present situation in Manipur, leader of oppostion in the Parliament, Sushma Swaraj along with two other BJP leaders will be arriving at Imphal on a two day visit on July 8. Confirming this, president of BJP Manipur Pradesh, Sh Shantikumar told this newspaper today that she would be accompanied by deputy leader of Rajya Sabha, SS Ahluwalia and MP Bijoya Chakravarty.
In connection with the proposed visit of the national BJP leaders, a meeting of the state unit leaders was held at the party's office at Nityaipat Chuthek at 1 pm today.
The meeting decided to accord a warm reception to the party leaders and inform them about the extremely high prices of essential commodities, and acute scarcity of petroleum products in Manipur.
The president of BJP Manipur Pradesh further said that as soon as the national leaders arrive at Imphal, they would meet representatives of civil socity organisations and listen to their greivances.
A public meeting would be organised at GM Hall on July 9. Explaining the reasons why the Oppostion leader of Lok Sabha and the deputy leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha would be coming together to Imphal, leader of the state unit of BJP said that it is because both the leaders would take up the issues of Manipur in both the Houses of the Parliament, therefore they need to know the real situation first hand.
The BJP Manipur Pradesh has always been keeping the party's national leaders informed of the latest situations in Manipur.
The party's national conference held recently in Patna had discussed the issues of Manipur seriously.
In the ensuing parliament session, the BJP would bring up the issues of Manipur in both the Houses.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by Secretary, Media Affairs, BJP, Manipur Pradesh, Laimayum Bashanta said that the price-rise under UPA regime has been unabated.
The prices of items of daily use and consumption by common men have increased eroding the household budget.
The recent hike in petroleum products like petrol, diesel, kerosin and LPG's prices has further burdened the life of common man and made it much more difficult for him/her to make both ends meet.
In this current season, when cultivation is actively going on, the farmers are not yet getting fertilizers.
The SPF Government is still unable to release the fertilizers even if there is adequate stock in the Government godown.
He further said that, BJP believes that it is colossal economic mismanagement and callousness of the UPA Government that the common people are being made to suffer on the onslaught of rising prices.
This is despite repeated assurances of the Hon'ble Prime Minister and the UPA Chairperson that the price rise will be checked.
The Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Smt.
Sonia Gandhi few days back released the UPA Government's Report Card only a few days ago and both have categorically admitted that checking price rise has been the major failure of the Government.
They committed to take steps to control prices.
It is shocking that instead of bringing down the prices, the petroleum prices hike shall fuel the price rise further.
BJP would like to remind that this is a major betrayal of trust of the common people by the UPA Government at the Centre and the SPF Government led by Shri Okram Ibobi in the State which had been elected to office on the plank of addressing the concerns of 'aam aadmi'.
It seems that the Congress Government has paid only lip-service to the common man and has been playing into the hands of hoarders and racketeers.
Still both the Government of the Centre and State failed to control the prices of the essential commodities while the people are extremely suffering even facing starvation.
In order to protest against this unjustified hike in petroleum prices and the total ineptitude of UPA Government to address this problem, BJP President, Shri Nitin Gadkari has given a call for a Bharat Bandh on 5th July, 2010.Shri Gadkari has appealed to all well-meaning individuals and organizations to support this call and voice the agony and suffering of common people in a peaceful and democratic manner.
In this regard, BJP, Manipur Pradesh appealed to all the organizations and people residing in Manipur who are opposing the unhealthy and wrong economic policies of Congress Government, to support the Bharat Bandh, and express concern against the Mehangai-Price Rise on 5th.July, 2010, he stated.
