Imphal, July 03, 2010:
The all Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has said that the Union is not against the Minister of Education, L Jayentakumar but against the corrupt system prevailing in the Education Department.
Reacting to the statement of NSUI condemning ATSUM's demand for resignation of the Education Minister, Assistant General Secretary of ATSUM, Robert Leivon today said in a press release that the Union has been tirelessly fighting for the tribal students' rights for the past many years.
And when all truths of nepotism, muscle power, money power and connection come out in the open in the form of recruitment of Primary and Hindi teachers in the Education Department, it is but natural for the Union to condemn the system and the person who is the head of the department.
ATSUM is not against the Minister, but against the system, Robert Leivon said and added that the very fact that the said result being approved.
by the DPC Board but denied by the Minister concerned is deplorable.
If the Minister is a responsible and morally right person, he ought to automatically step down if this kind of rot and scams are to be unearthed in his department, the press release said.
When the whole state is condemning this very controversy why should the NSUI decry the statement of ATSUM, Robert Leivon asked.
NSUI being a body officially affiliated to Congress, backing and supporting a Congressman is understandable, but why should NSUI just jump and call ATSUM a non student body, he asked.
He said, ATSUM can challenge NSUI on what kind of activities it has done for the state's rotten educational system.
It is unfortunate that the NSUI made irresponsible statement for publicity alone.
ATSUM can argue and challenge the acitivities done by NSUI, but not through cheap media publicity, the Assistant General Secretary said.
