The newly elected President of the District Congress Committee Mr Lalnghet Hmar said that his first priority as the new Congress President of the district will be to reorganize the party and strengthen the party for the coming state Assembly elections in the states, one and half year away.
It maybe mentoned that Mr Lalnghet Hmar fought the recently concluded MDC election from Saikot ADC but lose out to Mr Hrila Joute of the CPI with a narrow margin.
The DCC Churachandpur was recently reorganized and an election held at its office in line with the the Congress Party organizational election procedure.
Three party leaders such as President Mr Lalnghet Hmar, Vice-President Mr Mangsat Haokip and Treasurer Mr B.Jamkhojang were elected uncontest.
All the other party portfolio of Gen Secretary, Asst Gen Secy, Secretary, etc will be fill in by the newly elected party leaders after due consideration, said a party source.
Mr Lalnghet Hmar is a close associate of the then Health minister and MPCC Vice President Dr Chaltonlien Amo and a veteran political players at the local level.
Congress leaders from the district Ms Phungzathang Tonsing, minister Power/Sc & Tech/S & H, Mr TN Haokip, minister PHED/IPR, Mr Manga Vaiphei, MLA and Dr Chaltonlien Amo who witness the party election on June 30 all spokes of the Congress going to be a stronger party in coming years.
Mr TN Haokip said that, out of the 6 Assembly constituencies in the district, the Congress presently have 3 MLAs and in coming years with the new leadership, the Congress will be able to secure all of the 6 Assembly constituencies, he said.
It maybe mentioned that the DCC-I was for the past 15 years headed by Mr T.Dongzakai as its President.
Mr Dongzakai has to step down in line with the new constitution that stated a President should not continue for more than 2 consecutive terms.
