Imphal, July 03 2010:
In connection with the proposed Bharat Bandh sponsored by the BJP on July 5, State unit of the political organisation has called upon all sections of Manipur to extend support to one-day the agitation.
A BJP Manipur Pradesh statement issued by its Media Affairs secretary L Bashanta said the agitation call is being given to protest alleged failure of the UPA Government to check rise in prices of essential commodities.
Pointing out that price rise under UPA regime has been unabated as prices of items of daily use and consumption by common men have increased eroding the household budget, the statement expressed strong resentment that recent hike in prices of petroleum products like petrol, diesel, kerosene and LPG has put further burden upon livelihood of the common public.
"In this current season, when cultivation activities are being carried out farmers are deprived of fertilizers with the SPF Government yet to release fertilizers inspite of adequate stock at the disposal of the Government," Bashanta accused.
"BJP believes that it is colossal economic mismanagement and callousness of the UPA Government that the common people are being made to suffer onslaught of rising prices.
This is despite repeated assurances of the Prime Minister and the UPA Chairperson that price rise will be checked" .
The Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi few days back released UPA Government's Report Card and both have categorically admitted that checking price rise has been the major failure of the Government.
They committed to take steps to control prices.
It is shocking that instead of bringing down the prices, petroleum price hike will fuel the price
rise further.
BJP would like to remind that this is a major betrayal of trust of the common people by the UPA Government at the Centre and the SPF Government led by Okram Ibobi in the State which had been elected to office on the plank of addressing the concerns of 'aam aadmi', the State unit BJP statement noted.
Opining that the Congress Government seem to have paid only lip-service to the common man and has been playing into the hands of hoarders and racketeers, it said both the Government at the Centre and State have failed to control the prices of the essential commodities thereby compounding miseries of the people.
In order to protest against this unjustified hike in petroleum prices and the total ineptitude of UPA Government to address this problem, BJP President, Nitin Gadkari has given a call for a Bharat Bandh on July 5, the Media Affairs secretary quoted Gadkari as appealing to all well-meaning individuals and organisations to support the call and voice agony and suffering of common people in a peaceful and democratic manner.
State BJP unit also appealed to all the organizations and people residing in Manipur who are opposing unhealthy and wrong economic policies of Congress Govt, to support the bandh.
