Imphal, September 26 2026: Two more Nagas belonging to the Mao and Poumai communities have been killed in an alleged attack carried out by Kuki militants today minutes after Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand left Maram where he attended the silver jubilee celebration of Don Bosco College, Maram.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand and MLA Awangbow Newmai have vehemently condemned the killing of two civilians and injuring two others at Kailenjang village today.

Notably, four Nagas belonging to the Tangkhul community were killed in a deadly attack carried out by Kuki militants from the Myanmar-based KNA(B) at Pilong village, Kamjong district just two days back on September 24, 2026 .

Kuki militants allegedly attacked Kailenjang village, Kangpokpi district under Senapati police station at around 3.30 pm today.

Two men identified as Rocky Mao of Chowainamei Khullen and Kumar Poumai of Laii Shrafii village were killed in the attack while two others identified as Adani Manio (33) of Makhel village and Ashiho Sani (49) of Shajouba village sustained critical injuries.

Sources said that Ashiho Sani needed surgery.

According to the sources, people of nearby villages heard sounds of firing at Kailenjang village at around 3.30 pm today and when they rushed to the village, they found two persons lying in a pool of blood with bullet injuries.

Heavily armed Kuki militants suspected to be cadres of KRA attacked Kailenjang village located at the border of Kangpokpi and Senapati districts.

Even though Kailenjang falls within Kangpokpi district, it comes under the jurisdiction of Senapati police station.

Soon after the firing ceased, a team of Senapati police station and Central forces deployed in the nearby area rushed to Kailenjang village.

They evacuated the injured persons to GetWell Hospital for emergency treatment.

Another team of Senapati district police led by SP Shaikh Mohd Zaib Zakir had also reportedly rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

Bodies of the deceased victims have been taken to Senapati district hospital morgue for the post mortem.

A case has been registered at Senapati police station regarding the incident for investigation and further necessary legal procedure.

Considering the tense situation prevailing in Senapati district following the killing of the two innocent Naga civilians by Kuki militants, strong security measures have been put in place at vulnerable places, said the sources.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Y Khemchand has termed the attack a cowardly act of violence against innocent lives.

The Chief Minister has also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Strongly condemning the continuous and senseless attack and killing of innocent civilians by suspected Kuki militants at Kailenjang village, MLA Awangbow Newmai has appealed to all communities to shun violence and join hands in the process of bringing peace and communal harmony.

Awangbow Newmai has also expressed solidarity with the bereaved families, and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured civilians.
