Naga-Meitei body set up

A common body of Nagas and Meiteis christened Meitei-Naga Protection Committee (MNPC), Manipur has been established with the primary objective of protecting the ancestral land, rights, dignity, safety and interests of the Meitei and Naga communities through lawful and democratic means.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, MNPC general secretary Merajao Kabui said that the committee was formed on September 27, 2026 .
Merajao Kabui said that the MNPC is a joint body of the indigenous Meitei and Naga communities of Manipur and its primary objective is safeguarding the indigenous people, their ancestral land and the shared cultural heritage of the two communities through lawful and peaceful means.

The committee will function strictly in accordance with the Constitution and laws of India to foster unity, harmony and prosperity, he said.
The committee will organise and coordinate volunteers for community service, protection and assistance during emergencies.
The committee will also work to promote unity, mutual respect, harmony and peaceful coexistence between Meitei and Naga communities, Merajao Kabui said.
The committee will cooperate with Government authorities and other lawful organisations on public welfare and community, and also for advancement of education, sports, skill development and economic growth, the MNPC general secretary added.
