Community Awareness and Early Cancer Detection Programme held

To address issues like limited access to cancer screening, cancer related myths and lack of awareness about common cancer, Karkinos Manipur Cancer Institute and Research Centre in collaboration with TYDA (Toubul Youths' Development Association) organised a day-long Community Awareness and Screening Camp (Early Cancer Detection Programme) at Toubul Mini Bazar, Bishnupur district According to a release issued by Karkinos, the event was graced by Oinam AC MLA, Irengbam Nalini Devi.
The Cancer Early Detection Programme included an awareness session, health check-up, risk assessment, HPV vaccination and screening for 6 major forms of cancer such as head & neck, oral, breast, cervical, lungs, prostate and colorectal.
Around 200 people including men, women and children from the Toubul area attended the camp.
An experienced medical team of Karkinos Healthcare Manipur including Dr RK Gautamjit, Consultant-Head & Neck Oncosurgery; Dr Thingujam James, Consultant-Gynaecologist; Dr Nandan Choudhary, Consultant-Supportive & Palliative Care; W Imo, Lead-Early Detection and Screening along with RMOs and Nurses were present at the programme to highlight the importance of Prevention, Cancer Screening and Early Detection in the treatment of cancer.
The doctors raised awareness about the causes and symptoms of cancers and asked people to take precautionary measures.
