Assam Rifles Veterans Day observed widely

Assam Rifles as a mark of respect towards the selfless service provided by the ex-servicemen, their sacrifices towards the nation and to show solidarity towards the Next of Kin (NoK) of the Bravehearts has declared March 23 as Assam Rifles Veterans Day.
In view of the same, the first Veterans Day was celebrated today with veterans outreach events conducted across Manipur to connect with the veterans and their NoKs.
On the occasion a mega Ex-Servicemen(ESM) Rally was organised at Lilong, Thoubal district today wherein the representatives of Assam Rifles, administrative and police officials were also present to interact and address the grievances of the veterans.
The aim of the conduct of the event was to interact with veterans and their kins, understanding their problems if any and getting them resolved through coordinating with the District Administration, said a press release by the Assam Rifles.
The event witnessed unveiling of AR-ESM Compendium and felicitation of Veer Naaris and ESMs who had carried out selfless duty protecting the motherland.
During the conduct of event issues pertaining to pension and welfare of Assam Rifles, Ex-Servicemen were addressed.
Stalls and outlets of Pension Cell, Banking Solution Counters, ECHS Cell and various State Department counters including Sericulture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Employment exchange, Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) were established to make them understand the various Government Schemes pertaining to welfare of veterans and their family members.
A medical camp comprising various specialists both from Assam Rifles and District Hospital Thoubal and a dental chair fully equipped with modem equipment was also set up to address veterans' medical problems and address them accordingly.
A large number of Ex-servicemen attending the rally approached the Pension Cell established in location to check the correct disbursement of the pension in their accounts.
The grievances which could not be resolved on the spot were taken along by the representatives for early redressal.
A Canteen Store Department extension counter was also put up to assist them in purchase of essential commodities.
The event was a major step forward for ameliorating the day to day problems of the Veterans and Veer Naris.
It provided them a platform to express their concerns directly to the concerned officials.
The event received tremendous response with more than 500 ESMs, Veer Naris and their Dependents attending the rally.
Similar outreach programmes were conducted at Pallel in Kakching district which was attended by 60 people, at Ukhrul and Kamjong attended by over 170 people and at Churachandpur District wherein 190 ex-servicemen, 180 NOKs and 90 Veer naris and children attended the event.
Various facilities like medical camp, Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) help desk, banking services were provided under a single roof.
In addition to these events a memorial for martyrs was also inaugurated at Berukhudam Village of Chandel district to honour the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
