Assam Rifles Veterans' Day celebrated across state

Assam Rifles celebrated March 23 as 'Assam Rifles Veterans Day', honouring ex-servicemen's selfless service, sacrifices and solidarity with the next of kin (NoK) of the bravehearts through outreach events across Manipur.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that a mega ex-servicemen (ESM) rally was organised at Lilong, Thoubal district, where in addition to Assam Rifles, representatives of district administration and police were present to interact and address the grievances of the veterans.
The event witnessed unveiling of AR-ESM compendium and felicitation of Veer Naaris and ESMs who had carried out selfless duty protecting the motherland, the release said.
Stalls and outlets of pension cell, banking solution counters, ECHS cell and various state department counters including sericulture, horticulture, fisheries, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, employment exchange and Nehru Yuva Kendra were established to propagate various government schemes and incentives pertaining to welfare of veterans and their family members.
The event was a major step forward for ameliorating day-to-day problems of the veterans and Veer Naris.
It received tremendous response with more than 500 ESMs, Veer Naris and their dependents attending the rally at Lilong, according to the IGAR (S).
A medical camp involving various specialists both from Assam Rifles and District Hospital.
Thoubal and dental chair fully equipped with modern equipment was also set up to address veteran's medical problems.
A canteen store department extension counter was also put up to assist them in purchase of essential commodities, it continued.
Similar outreach programmes were conducted at Pallel, Kakching district which was attended by 60 people.
In Ukhrul and Kamjong; over 170 people attended the programme while the event in Churachandpur district saw 190 ex-servicemen, 180 NOKs and 90 Veer naris and children.
A memorial for martyrs was also inaugurated at Berukhudam village of Chandel district to honour the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, the release added.
