DGP urged to rescue drivers, handyman

The three persons, two drivers and a handyman of bullet tankers, abducted by cadres of the Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger (KPLT) are still in their custody since their abduction on January 16. Informing this, the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' and Motor Works' Union has today sought the help of the state police through the DGP to rescue them unharmed.
Drivers Longjam Arun Singh and Thokchom Jiten Singh along with the handyman Nanao @ Suresh Singh of four Gas Bullet Tankers were abducted after an attack on one of the tankers at Karbi Anglong while they were heading towards Imphal.
In the attack by heavily armed cadres damaged the windshield of tanker (MN01-6093) belonging to one A Hemanta Sharma, the petition to the DGP said adding that many Imphal bound trucks are now stranded on NH 39 unable to cross the Karbi Anglong area fearing their lives and properties.
Reiterating that the lives of the abducted persons are at risk, the Union pleaded the DGP to rescue them without delay or to take up immediate action for the safe release of the kidnapped persons and also to contact the Karbi Anglong district police for their safe release.
At the same time, they also pleaded the DGP to take up appropriate action to ensure the safety of drivers and handymen on NH 39 and to prevent harassing them by various underground elements indulging in extortion from trucks plying on the highway.
