Chingsubam Akaba remembered

People of the state today remembered Chingsubam Akaba who dedicated his life in uniting the peoples of the hills and the valley and who championed the cause for Meetei Mayek and the traditional religion of the Meetei community.
A statue of Akaba was unveiled by titular king Meidingu Leishemba Snajaoba today at Wakha Leimaching, Imphal East as part of the observation.
The 4th death anniversary of Late Akaba was organised by the Luchingpurel Chingsubam Akaba Ningsing Lup (LUKANIL) at his burial place.
Floral tributes were offered to the statue of Akaba.
Thang-Ta troupes gave a guard of honour and Khullakpas of hill villages paid a gun salute to the departed soul.
Meidingu Leishemba Sanajaoba graced the anniversary function as chief guest.
Former Minister RV Mingthing, Retired Principal Professor Sairem Nilabir, State Kala Akademi Awardee Thang-Ta artiste Saikhom Nodia Mangang, President MEELAL Moirangthem Nongdalenkhomba, Secretary General Meetei National Front Golmei Makuichung Kabui and Sanjit Hijam of Global Wing Index were the presidium members.
Meidingu Leishemba said that Chingsubam Akaba was a leader who fought for the development of Manipuri language, script, religion, tradition and culture.
He also strived for unification of the different communities in the state.
Meidingu Leishemba further said that it is high time for the people of the state to stand unitedly and to strive for a collective responsibility to bring back the loving relations which existed in the past between the hill and the valley peoples.

They should translate the dream of the leader into reality.
Speaking on the occasion, RV Mingthing said that communal clashes will only bring destruction to the people of the state and not to others.
Development will automatically gear up if the peoples of the hills and the valley unite and act as one.
RV Mingthing said that Chingsubam Akaba and he had visited many villages in the hills to spread the word of oneness and unification.
He said it was the credit of Chingsubam Akaba and former Chief Minister Yangmasho Shaiza that people are now learning Meetei Mayek as compulsory subject in the schools and that even a newspaper in Meetei Mayek is published in the state.
It was when Yangmasho Shaiza was Chief Minister that Meetei Mayek was declared as the official script of Manipur, Mingthing said.
He also said the killing of such a valuable leader was a great loss for the people of Manipur.
Managing Trustee, LUKANIL, Wangamba Meetei said that the act of killing Chingsubam Akaba was an unjustified killing.
He said that the main reason of organizing the anniversary was to renew the courage of his followers who have vowed to translate his dreams into reality.
Retired Principal, Presidency College, Ng Kangjia Mangang was honoured with the Chingsubam Akaba Memorial Award which is given by MEELAL to noted activist of Meetei script and language.
Athokpam Ojendra of Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal who made the statue of Akaba was also honoured with gifts.
