Condolences pour in for MK Binodini

With the demise of eminent writer Maharajkumari Binodini, the youngest daughter of Maharaj Churachand Singh, who was popularly known as 'Imashi', condolence messages from various sections of the society have poured in sharing the pain and the sorrow of her family.
The Manipuri Sahitya Parishad held a condolence meeting at its office at Paona Bazar Imphal today and paid homage to the departed soul of MK Binodini.
Professor N Tombi presided over the meeting.
MK Binodini wrote numerous short stories, novels, travelogues, radio plays and songs in her lifetime.
It may be mentioned that MK Binodini was conferred the Sahitya Akademi Award, the State Kala Akademi Award and many other awards for her book 'Bor Saheb Ongbi Sanatombi'.
Manipuri Sahitya Parishad had also honoured her with the Jamini Sunder Guha Memorial gold Medal for her short story 'Nungairakta Chandramukhi' in 1967. Officials of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy also organised a condolence meeting at its office premises to pay homage to the departed soul.
The meeting reviewed the contribution of MK Binodini in the field of Manipuri literature and arts.
'Keibul Lamjao", "Loktak Ishei' and 'Thoibi' are some noted plays of MK Binodini.
Among them, Keibul Lamjao has been displayed in various countries on numerous occasions.
The Youth Front, Manipur People's Party, Indian People's Theatre Association, Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Nongchup Haram Khorjei Lup (NOHAKHOL), The Cultural Forum Manipur, Macha Leima, Manipuri Language Advisory Committee of Sahitya Akademi and Film Forum Manipur also held condolence meetings at their respective offices today to pay homage to the departed soul.
The Manipur University also held a meeting today with Vice Chancellor, Professor C Amuba in the chair to condole the demise of Maharajkumari Binodini.
