Ch Akaba remembered

A statue of Chingsubam Akaba has been unveiled by titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba on the occasion of 4th death anniversary of the Meitei Mayek script advocate, at his Wakhaching burial site in the Nongmaiching (Baruni) hill range today.
Akaba was also the president of MEELAL.
Apart from the titular king unveiling the statue, gun salute by a tribal participant, martial arts display, floral tribute at the statue and observance of two minutes silence were the other highlight of the death anniversary.
Moreover, the Luchingpurel Chingsubam Akaba Ningsing Mana (award) comprising of a shawl and memento was presented to Principal (retired) of Presidency College Prof Ng Kangjia Mangang on the occasion while Athokpam Ojendro of Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, who sculpted Akaba�s statue was also honoured through presentation of a simple gift.
Presenting the key note address, Managing Trustee of Luchingpurel Chingsubam Akaba Ningsing Lup, Th Wangamba informed that statue of the departed script activist was built through monetary contribution by the Lup members and individuals.
He also conveyed that preparations are being made for publication of a book based activities of Akaba on strengthening the bond between the hill and valley people and his relentless endeavour to promote the Meitei language and script.

Former Minister RV Mingthing, Principal (Retd) of DM College of Commerce Prof Sairem Nilabir, State Kala Academy awardee (Thang-ta) Saikhom Nodiya Mangang, MEELAL president Moirangthem Naodalenkhomba and Meetei National Front general secretary Golmei Makuichung Kabui also spoke on the occasion recalling Akaba�s contribution for promotion of Meitei language and script as well as his effort to unite the indigenous people of Manipur.
