Ukhrul, August 11 2023: Lummi Shangchiri of Khangkhui Khullen village, Ukhrul who represented Manipur won Rubaru Mr India Brand Ambassador - 2023 title and the Healthy Skin award at the 19th edition of Rubaru Mr India 2023 (one of India's biggest pageant) held on August 5 at Bogmallo Beach Resort in Goa.

22 year old Lummi is the second person after Songashim Rungsung from Ukhrul district who won the title at National level in the men's pageant contest, showcasing the festive costume of the Tangkhul Naga tribe.

He is the son of (Late) David Shangchiri and Paishola Shangchiri.

Speaking to this correspondent, Lummi said he along with his friend Reshap Chettri represented Manipur at the contest.

Reshap also won the title Model International and sub-title of Best Runway model.

He further said that he and Reshap were selected to represent the State at the National level during the State level competition which was held on March 31, 2023 at Classic Grande, Imphal.

With regards to his preparation, he said that a Shillong based company sponsored him and underwent intensive preparation for one and a half month at Dimapur for the contest.

According to him, 32 contestants from different States of India competed for 18 titles of Rubaru Mr India -2023 which was held from August 2-5 at Goa.

According to Lummi, the entire collection of his wardrobe for the competition was hand woven traditional clothes of Tangkhul.

Currently based in Imphal, he is pursuing his final year in Geography in DM College.

As a Brand Ambassador, he will work in motivating youths of the NorthEast in maintaining their physique, raise awareness and campaign against drugs and further educate on health benefits in collaboration with Mr Rubaru.

Lummi is looking forward to international competitions in the upcoming years.

Meanwhile, Youth Chairman of Khangkhui Khullen village Mingyao Kasar congratulated Lummi for bringing laurels for the state and making the village proud with his achievement.
